CSIF Launches Third Annual “Farming is a Family Affair” Photo Contest
07-01-2016 in Communications Internship
WEST DES MOINES, Iowa – July 1, 2016 – Iowa is home to over 88,637 farms, 97.5 percent of which are family owned. To celebrate Iowa’s livestock farm families, the Coalition to Support Iowa’s Farmers (CSIF) is launching the third annual “Farming is a Family Affair” photo contest from July 1 through August 1, 2016 through CSIF’s Facebook page.
The top three winners with the most ‘likes’ by 5:00 p.m. August 1 will receive a day package to the 2016 Iowa State Fair. The first place recipient will also receive a customized Iowa farm family sign featuring the recipient’s last name.
“We invite all Iowans to celebrate their farm family traditions by participating in this photo contest,” said Brian Waddingham, CSIF executive director. “Agriculture is a driving force in Iowa, but many people don’t understand that those farms are family owned. Our goal is to help shine a light on those families.”
Participants may submit their favorite photo of their farm family living in the moment by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Entrants must be Iowa residents and submissions are limited to one photo per household. The photos will be posted on CSIF’s Facebook page where Iowans can cast their vote by ‘liking’ their favorite photo.
“The Coalition to Support Iowa’s Farmers is committed to helping Iowa’s farm families carry on the tradition of raising livestock successfully and responsibly,” Waddingham said. “The photo contest is not only a reflection of the Coalition’s mission, but a tribute to the farm families who pass on their passion for agriculture from one generation to the next.”
CSIF is a non-profit, non-lobbying organization that assists livestock farmers who want help interpreting rules and regulations, guidance on identifying good site locations for barns, counsel on enhancing neighbor relations and tips on how to protect the environment at no cost.
This positive, solutions-based approach to helping livestock farmers grow is a collaborative effort involving the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association, Iowa Corn Growers Association, Iowa Egg Council, Iowa Farm Bureau, Iowa Pork Producers Association, Iowa Soybean Association, Iowa Turkey Federation and the Midwest Dairy Association.
