Alliant Energy Renews $10,000 Investment in the Coalition

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa – June 16, 2014 – Alliant Energy recognizes the importance of supporting Iowa agriculture and Iowa’s farm families.  The Midwest energy company has renewed its $10,000 investment in the Coalition to Support Iowa’s Farmers (CSIF).

“We have witnessed firsthand the positive impact CSIF has made on Iowa’s farm families over the past decade and we are proud to invest in an organization that helps families grow and improve their farms responsibly,” said Dave Warrington, Agricultural Representative for Alliant Energy. “We believe the Coalition’s pre-emptive approach of helping farmers well in advance of breaking ground on a new livestock barn or feedlot is important to help Iowa’s overall economy grow.  Our support of the Coalition helps ensure that their services will continue to be an indispensable resource available to all Iowa farmers.”

Since the Coalition’s launch a decade ago, the organization has helped more than 2,700 farm families grow their farms responsibly and successfully. In response to farmers’ requests, CSIF launched the Green Farmstead Partner (GFP) Program in 2009 to assist livestock farmers interested in planting trees and shrubs.

The Alliant Energy investment will be used to enhance the efforts of the GFP Program. With the help of 21 nursery and landscape professionals participating in the program, over 44,000 trees have already been planted on livestock and poultry farms.

“As we celebrate ten years of service to Iowa’s farm families, we would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Alliant Energy for their continued support,” CSIF Executive Director Brian Waddingham said.  “Their investment in our Green Farmstead Partner Program showcases their commitment to the environment and Iowa agriculture.”

The Coalition to Support Iowa’s Farmers was created by farmers to help farmers raise livestock successfully and responsibly.  It’s a joint partnership involving the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association, Iowa Corn Growers Association, Iowa Farm Bureau Federation, Iowa Pork Producers Association, Iowa Soybean Association, Iowa Turkey Federation and Midwest Dairy Association.

The non-profit, non-partisan organization provides assistance to farmers at no cost.  CSIF does not lobby or develop policy.  Farm families wanting a helping hand can contact the Coalition at 1-800-932-2436 or visit www.supportfarmers.com.
