Farm to Table: Thanksgiving Dinner

We hear the phrase, “farm to table,” often. Perhaps Thanksgiving Dinner is one of the best demonstrations of this. From the turkey to the corn to the pumpkin pie, we can trace each food back to its origins and appreciate the work of the producers who helped get it to our plate.

Turkey. The most common Thanksgiving protein. In Iowa, turkey farmers take great pride in raising a safe & nutritious food product. Iowa’s 130 turkey farms, most of which are comprised of 2nd or 3rd generation farmers, raise nearly 12 million turkeys annually. Not only does the industry produce a lot of protein, but it produces a lot of jobs as well. The turkey industry in Iowa supports over 38,000 jobs and contributes $10.64 billion in total economic activity throughout the state.
