Good Farm Neighbors: Dennis & Diane Liljedahl

Dennis & Diane Liljedahl of Page County were recognized as the first Good Farm Neighbor Award recipients of 2023 on Wednesday, January 25th at the Iowa Pork Congress. Along with their son and daughter-in-law, they raise wean-to-finish hogs outside of Essex, IA. Dennis is a previous Iowa Pork Producers Association Board President and has served on the board since 2016. He also was recognized as a Master Pork Producer in 1994.

Farming for the Future

In partnership with the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association and Iowa Beef Industry Council, CSIF hosted the Farming for the Future Series on The Big Show. The Farming for the Future Friday series on The Big Show will return February 17th, focusing on opportunities in pork production in Iowa.

Provide examples. Don’t talk in generalities. Offer examples about how you raise and care for your livestock, the various businesses and vendors you rely on to get the job done and agriculture’s benefits to the local economy.

Pork Cares Farm Impact Report

The National Pork Board is working with producers to measure and document key sustainability metrics with Checkoff-funded on-farm sustainability reports. The report provides economic value of agronomic manure rates, offers data on water quality and usage, and validates producer to commitment to the community via donations and service.

HPAI Producer Documents & Toolkit

The Iowa Department of Agriculture & Land Stewardship provides resources and information regarding the prevention, testing, and reporting of avian influenza. Producers can also take advantage of the HPAI Toolkit put together by IDALS, the Iowa State Veterinary Diagnostic Lab, and the North Central Poultry Association’s Veterinary Advisory Committee.
