WEST DES MOINES, Iowa – January 10, 2018 – Do you know an Iowa livestock farmer who takes pride in doing the right thing for people, animals and the environment? Nominate them for the Wergin Good Farm Neighbor award, sponsored by the Coalition to Support Iowa’s Farmers (CSIF). Nominations are open through March 1, 2018 at www.supportfarmers.com/goodfarmneighbor.
“Iowa farm families go to great lengths every day to provide the best possible care for their animals and the environment, while still being good neighbors and active community members,” says Brian Waddingham, executive director of CSIF. “This award recognizes them for their commitment while showing support for the livestock industry in Iowa.”
Since 2003, the Good Farm Neighbor award has been presented to 129 Iowa farm families who are active in their communities, and go above and beyond as environmental stewards and animal caretakers. The award is named in memory of Gary Wergin, a long-time WHO Radio farm broadcaster.
“Livestock farming plays a vital role in our state, contributing $32 billion to our economy and thousands of jobs. It’s important to highlight the people who make that possible and are committed to doing things right,” Waddingham said. “The Good Farm Neighbor award is a reflection of responsible livestock farming.”
The Wergin Good Farm Neighbor award is presented by the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship and Iowa Ag Radio Network, and is made possible by the financial support of the Coalition to Support Iowa’s Farmers.
The Coalition to Support Iowa’s Farmers was created by farmers to help farmers raise livestock successfully and responsibly. It’s a joint partnership involving the Iowa Beef Industry Council, Iowa Cattlemen’s Association, Iowa Corn Growers Association, Iowa Farm Bureau Federation, Iowa Pork Producers Association, Iowa Poultry Association, Iowa Soybean Association, Iowa Turkey Federation and Midwest Dairy Association.
The non-profit, non-partisan organization provides assistance to farmers at no cost. CSIF does not lobby or develop policy. Farm families wanting a helping hand can contact the coalition at 1-800-932-2436.
