Green Family to Receive Good Farm Neighbor Award

West Des Moines, Iowa – June 16, 2016 – The Coalition to Support Iowa’s Farmers (CSIF) commends the Green family of Dickinson County for their outstanding efforts as a neighbors and community leaders. They have been named recipients of the Wergin Good Farm Neighbor award. Iowa Deputy Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig will present the award to the family on Monday, June 20th. The ceremony will be at the Milford Community Building located at 806 N Ave., in Milford.

“Iowa farm families go to great lengths every day to provide the best possible care for their animals and the environment, while still being good neighbors and active community members,” CSIF Executive Director Brian Waddingham said. “This award is a great way to recognize people like the Greens who represent who we would all like to have as a neighbor.”

The “Big Show,” which airs on both WHO and WMT radio, will broadcast live from the presentation from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The Wergin Good Farm Neighbor award, made possible through the financial support of CSIF, recognizes Iowa livestock farmers who take pride in doing things right. This includes caring for the environment and their livestock and being good neighbors. It is named in memory of Gary Wergin, a long-time WHO Radio farm broadcaster who helped create the award. GREEN FAMILY FROM DICKINSON COUNTY NAMED WERGIN GOOD FARM NEIGHBOR AWARD WINNERS

DES MOINES – Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey today announced that the Dave and Sharee Green family from Dickinson County have been named the winners of the Gary Wergin Good Farm Neighbor Award.

Iowa Deputy Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig will present the award to the family on Monday, June 20th. The ceremony will be at the Milford Community Building located at 806 N Ave., in Milford. The “Big Show,” which airs on both WHO and WMT radio, will broadcast live from the presentation from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

“The Wergin Good Farm Neighbor Award is an opportunity to highlight families like the Green’s that do an outstanding job caring for their animals, protecting the environment and also serving their neighbors and community,” Northey said. “Livestock farming is critically important to our state and it is important we recognize the families who do such a great job taking care of their animals.”

Dave and Sharee have two daughters and raise cattle and also grow row-crops and alfalfa. They have a feedlot and a bedded monoslope building. The Greens were nominated for the award by Katie Olthoff from the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association.

The Green’s care deeply about the environment as their farm is located near the Little Sioux River. The farm’s feedlot has total containment of all manure to eliminate the chance of runoff. Dave is also Beef Quality Assurance certified to demonstrate his dedication to his livestock and producing high-quality beef.

In addition to their work on the farm, the Green family is very active in the community. Dave helped form the Dickinson County Friends of Agriculture to share positive messages about agriculture in his home county.
