CSIF’s Farmer Phil explores the Iowa State Fair

WEST DES MOINES, IOWA – August 7, 2012 – The Coalition to Support Iowa’s Farmers (CSIF) will introduce a new way to engage fairgoers about the importance of livestock and CSIF at the 2012 Iowa State Fair.  “Farmer Phil” represents responsible Iowa livestock farmers who do the right thing to ensure they are raising animals in a safe and environmentally-sound manner.

Fairgoers can pick up a free fan featuring Farmer Phil and Iowa farm facts in the CSIF-sponsored Avenue of Breeds in the northwest corner of the Swine Barn daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. By taking Farmer Phil on a ‘tour’ of their adventures around the fair, snapping a picture of him and posting their experience on Facebook at facebook.com/supportfarmers or tweeting them with hashtag #FarmerPhil, they will be entered into a daily prize drawing.  Look for posters and cutouts of Farmer Phil in the Avenue of Breeds and at various CSIF partner areas around the fair.

“There’s so much to see at the Iowa State Fair that we wanted to find a fun, interactive way to engage fairgoers about the importance of livestock and what CSIF does to help Iowa’s livestock farmers,” said Brian Waddingham, CSIF Executive Director. “Through Farmer Phil, we can share some insights on how livestock is raised and cared for on farms today.”

The Coalition to Support Iowa’s Farmers was created by farmers to help farmers raise livestock successfully and responsibly.  It’s a joint partnership involving the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association, Iowa Corn Growers Association, Iowa Farm Bureau Federation, Iowa Pork Producers Association, Iowa Soybean Association, Iowa Turkey Federation and Midwest Dairy Association.

The non-profit, non-partisan organization provides assistance to farmers at no cost.  CSIF does not lobby or develop policy.  Farm families wanting a helping hand can contact the Coalition at 1-800-932-2436.
