Farm Tip: Communication is Key to Neighbor Relations

Communicate. Listen. Tell your story. Raising livestock responsibly starts with you. Whether you’re growing your farm, applying manure or siting a new barn, it is essential to personally visit with your neighbors and others in your community about your plans. Communicating openly and honestly about your farm is the first step in building trust.

The Coalition to Support Iowa’s Farmers is here to guide you as you develop your neighbor relations plan. Visit our website for more tips on being a good neighbor.

When in Doubt, Hire a Professional

Farmers are known for being a “jack-of-all-trades”, but that doesn’t mean you have to be a tree planting expert. The benefits of hiring a professional tree landscaper can often outweigh the costs. Whether you’re planting a small row of trees, or implementing an entire farm windbreak, the project will seem less of a chore if you call on the experts to complete the job.

Through our Green Farmstead Partner Program, we can connect you with a network of nurseries and landscapers from across the state. Contact us today to get started!

Farmgate Quotable

“By working with the Coalition we were educated in a deeper way about the placement of our livestock facilities, best manure management practices and meeting regulation standards. The process and tools that the Coalition provided gave us a customized visualization of our farm, and a peace of mind that we were in compliance with the rules and regulations.”
