Communications Internship Available

09-27-2018 in Communications Internship

WEST DES MOINES, IOWA – September 27, 2018 – The Coalition to Support Iowa’s Farmers (CSIF) has an opening for a communications intern for undergraduate students pursuing a degree in an agriculture-related field. This paid internship is full-time from May through August, with potential for the selected applicant to work part-time in the spring/fall.

The communications intern helps develop strategies focused on supporting farmers as they raise livestock responsibly and successfully. From the office to the field, the communications intern acquires hands-on experience in agriculture, journalism, public relations, marketing, social media, event management, and much more. “This internship gave me the opportunity to choose how I wanted to build my portfolio,” states 2018 intern, Megyn Walston, “I was able to add new writing pieces, graphics, photos and more.”

The ideal candidate will have experience in agriculture, writing, photography, social media, public relations, videography, and event management. Additionally, the intern must show a willingness to learn, possess excellent written and oral communication skills, and work both on a team and independently. A complete job description can be found on our website.

“The Coalition’s internship is designed to provide the intern with opportunities to work with livestock farmers, network with industry professionals and give insight into the role the livestock industry plays in Iowa while sharpening planning, organizing and communication skills,” says CSIF Executive Director, Brian Waddingham.

Intern duties include creating content for CSIF’s website, the Iowa Livestock Insider, social media, the Good Farm Neighbor Award, and the Green Farmstead Partner program. The selected candidate will also help coordinate events such as open houses, Good Farm Neighbor Award events, and video testimonials from farmers who have used CSIF’s services.

Students interested in applying for the communications internship should submit a cover letter, resume, two reference letters, and three work samples (writing, photography, and social media) to Gabby Glenister at gglenister@supportfarmers.com, by October 19, 2018.

The Coalition to Support Iowa’s Farmers was created by farmers to help farmers raise livestock responsibly and successfully. It’s a partnership involving the Iowa Beef Industry Council, Iowa Cattlemen’s Association, Iowa Corn Growers Association, Iowa Farm Bureau Federation, Iowa Pork Producers Association, Iowa Poultry Association, Iowa Soybean Association, Iowa Turkey Federation and the Midwest Dairy Association.
