WEST DES MOINES, IOWA – October 3, 2018 – Paul and Jason Wells and family were honored with the 140th  Wergin Good Farm Neighbor Award on Wednesday, September 26, 2018, at their farm in Milton, Iowa. Over 200 friends, family members and industry representatives were in attendance to show support and appreciation for the family.

Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig presented the award sponsored by the Coalition to Support Iowa’s Farmers (CSIF), the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship, and WHO and WMT radio stations.

Brian Waddingham, CSIF Executive Director, commented on the Well’s operation during the event. “This is a beautiful farm, they take a lot of pride in what they do. Raising 140 dairy cows and both organic and non-organic row crops, is a really great story of what Iowa’s farmers are doing to make things work on the farm. This award is a great opportunity to showcase what livestock farmers do every day across the state of Iowa.”

The Wells’ environmental stewardship, animal husbandry practices and community involvement were highlighted at the award ceremony. “I’m blown away by this operation and the family involvement. The size of this crowd that has come out to celebrate with the family speaks volumes to what the community thinks of the Wells family and the great job they do here on their farm,” said Naig.

The Wergin Good Farm Neighbor Award, presented by the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship and Iowa Ag Radio Network in partnership with CSIF, is awarded to Iowa farm families who raise livestock, and are good neighbors and stewards of the land. The award is given in honor of distinguished late WHO radio farm broadcaster, Gary Wergin.
