2021 Communications Internship Available

12-01-2020 in Communications Internship

WEST DES MOINES, IOWA – December 1, 2020 – The Coalition to Support Iowa’s Farmers (CSIF) has an opening for a communications intern for undergraduate students pursuing a degree in an agriculture-related field.

This paid internship is full-time from May through August, with potential for the selected applicant to work part-time in the fall/spring.

The communications intern helps develop strategies focused on supporting farmers as they raise livestock responsibly and successfully. From the office to the field, the communications intern acquires hands-on experience in agriculture, journalism, public relations, marketing, social media, event management, and much more. “The CSIF internship is great for students looking to expand their communication skills while networking within the agriculture industry,” states 2020 intern, Kelsi Carlson. “I would highly recommend this internship to anyone that has a passion for communicating about Iowa agriculture.”

The ideal candidate will have experience in agriculture, writing, photography, social media, public relations, videography, and event management. Additionally, the intern must show a willingness to learn, possess excellent written and oral communication skills, and work well both on a team and independently. A complete job description can be found on our website.

“The Coalition’s internship is designed to provide the intern with opportunities to work with livestock farmers, network with industry professionals and give insight into the role the livestock industry plays in Iowa while sharpening planning, organization and communication skills,” says CSIF Executive Director, Brian Waddingham.

Students interested in applying for the communications internship should submit a cover letter, resume, two reference letters, and three work samples (writing, photography, and social media) to Gabby Glenister at gglenister@supportfarmers.com, by December 15, 2020.

CSIF is a non-profit, non-lobbying organization that assists livestock farmers who want help interpreting rules and regulations, guidance on identifying good site locations for barns, counsel on enhancing neighbor relations and tips on how to protect the environment at no cost. This positive, solutions-based approach to helping livestock farmers grow is a collaborative effort involving the Iowa Beef Industry Council, Iowa Cattlemen’s Association, Iowa Corn Growers Association, Iowa Farm Bureau, Iowa Pork Producers Association, Iowa Poultry Association, Iowa Soybean Association, Iowa Turkey Federation and Midwest Dairy.
