Hunerdosse Family to Receive Wergin Good Farm Neighbor Award

West Des Moines, Iowa – September 18, 2015 – The Coalition to Support Iowa’s Farmers (CSIF) commends Ron, Sandi, Ron and Roxanne Hunerdosse of Warren County for their outstanding efforts as a neighbors and community leaders. They have been named recipients of the Wergin Good Farm Neighbor award. Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey will present the award to the families on Tuesday, Sept. 22. The ceremony will be at the farm of Blake Reynolds who nominated the family for the award. The Reynolds farm is located at 10533 110th Ave., Indianola.

“Iowa farm families go to great lengths every day to provide the best possible care for their animals and the environment, while still being good neighbors and active community members,” CSIF Executive Director Brian Waddingham said. “This award is a great way to recognize people like the Hunerdosses who represent who we would all like to have as a neighbor.”

The “Big Show,” which airs on both WHO and WMT radio, will broadcast live from the presentation from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The Wergin Good Farm Neighbor award, made possible through the financial support of CSIF, recognizes Iowa livestock farmers who take pride in doing things right. This includes caring for the environment and their livestock and being good neighbors. It is named in memory of Gary Wergin, a long-time WHO Radio farm broadcaster who helped create the award. DES MOINES – Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey today announced that Don and Sandi Hunerdosse and Ron and RoxAnne Hunerdosse from Warren County have been named the winners of the “Gary Wergin Good Farm Neighbor Award.”

Northey will present the award to the families on Tuesday, Sept. 22. The ceremony will be at the farm of Blake Reynolds who nominated the family for the award. The Reynolds farm is located at 10533 110th Ave., Indianola. The “Big Show,” which airs on both WHO and WMT radio, will broadcast live from the presentation from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

“The Wergin Good Farm Neighbor Award was designed to recognize livestock farmers like the Hunerdosse family that do a great job caring for their animals, protecting the land and serving their community. It is great to be able to celebrate the Hunerdosse family as well as lift up the livestock farmers all across our state who contribute so much to our communities,” Northey said.

Brothers Don and Ron farm near Milo with their wives Sandi and RoxAnne, respectively. Don and Sandi have two grown children and Ron and RoxAnne have two boys ages 10 and 12.

The Hunerdosse farm includes corn, soybeans, hay and a cow-calf operation. They have a 200-head cow-calf herd and background their calves. Sandi is the Warren County NRCS State Secretary and is instrumental in the workings of the Warren County Soil and Water Conservation District. RoxAnne is the Director of Human Resources for the city of Indianola.

The Hunerdosses’ are active in Warren County and beyond, including working with the Iowa Corn Growers Association and Warren County Fair.

The family was nominated for the award by Blake Reynolds who said, “Over the last year, I’ve had the opportunity to work with the Don and Ron developing comprehensive agronomic plans for their acres. They are progressive and show a sincere dedication to the environment.”

“Beyond their involvement in local and state organizations, Don and Ron are known for mentoring younger farmers. And, they are always looking for ways to improve markets and grow more bushels – whether it is on one of their farms, a landlord’s, or providing advice and a helping hand to a younger farmer. The Hunerdosse’s are great friends, neighbors and community members. Our community is a better place because of their involvement,” Reynolds added.
