Iowa Beef Industry Council Partners with Livestock Coalition

We are pleased to announce the Iowa Beef Industry Council (IBIC) has been named the ninth member organization of the Coalition to Support Iowa’s Farmers (CSIF), a collaborative initiative dedicated to helping farm families raise livestock and poultry responsibly and successfully.

Since 2004, CSIF has worked with nearly 4,000 farm families to help them grow their farms by providing siting assistance, implementing best management practices, interpreting rules and regulations and enhancing neighbor relations.

The addition of the IBIC will be integral to the continuation of the Coalition’s mission as well as the initiative’s free and confidential services.

Conservation Counts for Lucas County Good Farm Neighbors

For more than 30 years, Mike and Nick Hunter have been committed to implementing conservation practices on their family farm near Chariton, Iowa where they run a heifer development program and raise corn, soybeans, Christmas trees and 150 cow-calf pairs. The brothers’ targeted methods range from no-till to cover crops, contour terraces, windbreaks, filter strips and sediment basins.

“We’ve always been early adopters of conservation practices, and that’s still a mainstay on our farm,” said Mike.

On Wednesday, May 24th, the Hunter brothers were recognized with the Wergin Good Farm Neighbor Award in acknowledgement of their long-standing efforts as environmental stewards. Iowa Deputy Secretary of Agriculture, Mike Naig, presented the award to Mike, Nick and their families.
