Wilcox Family of Cherokee County Presented with Good Farm Neighbor Award

On Monday, June 5th, the Mark and Sara Wilcox family was recognized with the Wergin Good Farm Neighbor Award for their efforts as environmental stewards, livestock caretakers and community leaders. Iowa Deputy Secretary of Agriculture, Mike Naig, presented the award to the Wilcox family, thanking them for the positive example they set for Iowa agriculture.

“When you live in rural Iowa you’ve got to be able to communicate, and because of the nature of having livestock it’s incumbent upon us as we’re out here to explain what we’re doing and why we’re doing it,” said Mark.

Farmgate Quotable

Doug and Denise Bishop farm near Manchester, Iowa, raising hogs with the help of their children, Austin and Alex. When the Bishops decided to expand their farm, they made a call to the Coalition on siting questions and the opportunities within the Green Farmstead Partner Program.

“The Coalition gave us great materials that had information on trees and some things they see used in windbreaks. They also gave us a list of area nurseries that had gone through training with the Coalition to help them become more specialized in meeting the needs of today’s agricultural producers.” – Denise Bishop
