Members of the Coalition to Support Iowa’s Farmers traveled to Hedrick, Iowa, on Tuesday to celebrate the dedication and grand opening of Cargill’s new feed mill. The construction of this $29 million dollar project represents a significant investment toward Iowa’s farmers and community members within the region.

The Hedrick feed mill will produce 350,000 tons of pelletized hog feed annually, operating 24-hours-a-day, six-days-a-week. Serving over 100 family-owned farms within a 35 mile radius, the feed mill will provide nutrition to 1 million hogs each year.

The location of Cargill’s feed mill is strategic to the region as it will create a new market for grain farmers and supply locally produced feed to the area’s pork producers. In turn, the hogs raised will be processed a few miles away at Cargill’s pork processing facility near Ottumwa. The processing plant was recently expanded to increase production and meet rising consumer demand.

Iowa is the nation’s leader in pork production. The Coalition to Support Iowa’s Farmers salutes Cargill for contributing to the state’s continued success and demonstrating a commitment to Iowa’s farmers, community members and agricultural economy.
