Sheets Good Farm Neighbor Award

The Leon and Barb Sheets family of Chickasaw County will be recognized with the Wergin Good Farm Neighbor Award on Friday, October 13th at the Republic Community Church, 1794 280th St., Ionia, IA. 50645. Iowa Deputy Secretary of Agriculture, Mike Naig, will present the award to the family.

“It’s a great day to be a pig farmer.”

That’s the mantra Leon Sheets lives by when he gets out of bed every morning and heads to his hog barns. Pigs are Leon’s passions, and it’s a career he says not only requires good stockmanship, but service and leadership in the community.

Being a good farm neighbor means using practices that are good for the land and good for the community. In my neighborhood it’s expected of you to set the guidelines and lead by example. It’s more than a tradition, it’s an obligation to do the right thing.
