The Mark and Sara Wilcox family of Cherokee County will be recognized with the Wergin Good Farm Neighbor Award on Monday, June 5th at the Cleghorn Community Center, 102 E Grace St., Cleghorn, IA 51014. Iowa Deputy Secretary of Agriculture, Mike Naig, will present the award to the family.

Mark and his wife, Sara, and youngest son, Joe, raise a 70-head milking herd of registered Holsteins and a little over 800 acres of corn, soybeans, alfalfa and mixed pasture on their Century Farm near Marcus. From on-farm tours to local leadership roles, the Wilcox family understands the longevity of their farm hinges on good communication and the strength of their relationships within their community.

“When you live in rural Iowa you’ve got to be able to communicate, and because of the nature of having livestock it’s incumbent upon us as we’re out here to explain what we’re doing and why we’re doing it," says Mark. "You’ve got to be able to express your story.”
