Hunter Brothers Good Farm Neighbor Award

Mike and Nick Hunter of Lucas County will be recognized with the Wergin Good Farm Neighbor Award on Wednesday, May 24th at Mike’s farm, 20477 US Highway 34 Chariton, IA. 50049. Iowa Secretary of Agriculture, Bill Northey, will present the award to the family.

Together, the Hunter brothers raise around 400 heifers in a custom feeding development program and 150 cow-calf pairs. They also have a diversified corn, soybean, pasture and hay operation and run a Christmas tree farm as well as a shade tree and evergreen nursery business. For more than 30 years they have worked together to implement an extensive range of conservation practices including no-till, cover crops, contour terraces, windbreaks, filter strips and two modified sediment basins.
